Dr. Julia Carson - Thomas, DVM

DVM

Veterinarian

Dr Julia Carson - Thomas is a native of Marion County who grew up showing cattle and horses in the local 4-H and FFA. She would shadow and talk to any vet that would give her the time, including our own Dr. Dennis Moore. She attended WVU where she majored in Animal and Pre-Veterinary Science. After graduation she attended The Ohio State University School of Veterinary Medicine. Upon completion of her DVM in 2002, she began working for a mixed animal practice in Ohio before moving back to southern WV and opened her own practice. She owned and worked at her practice of an overnight small animal ER for 9.5 years in Virginia. After selling her practice, Dr Carson decided to move back north with her 2 daughters and husband as well as their many animals, large and small and everything in-between.  She ended up settling down within 4 miles of her family farm. She began working here at Fairmont Veterinary Hospital as mostly an ER and Urgent Care veterinarian. Now, she is working in all aspects of our practice and performs surgeries as well as seeing wellness and medical visits as well. What she enjoys the most is the variety of cases she sees, working with geriatric patients, and mentoring young veterinary technicians and veterinary students.

Dr Carson resides on a small hobby farm on the outskirts of Mannington with her now 3 daughters and husband. They are all extremely active in the local 4H and FFA programs and show cattle, hogs, goats, and most recently, lambs. Her husband is retired and holds down the fort at home. On their farm, they have; 4 dogs: Bubba, Tractor, Skittles and Frog, 4 cats: Mackeral, LB, Gator, and Cheetah, 2 rabbits: Thumper and Muchacha, 25+ chickens, 3 turkeys: Peter, Paul and Mary, and 3 horses: 60, Jitterbug, and Barron.  In her very limited free time, Dr Carson enjoys gardening and working with the Mannington Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary.
